The Stonewood Grill is an upscale dinner only establishment. While dress is casual, the ambience is reserved and inviting. The menu includes a mix of steak, seafood and pasta dishes. Most of which seem to live up to their enticing menu descriptions. They also offer a nice selection of wines to enjoy with your meal.
We started off with an appetizer consisting of muscles in a wonderful garlic based broth. This appetizer, although the aroma and flavor were excellent, was the only disappointing part of the meal. It seemed to me that every other muscle that we ate had sand in it. They apparently were not cleaned properly.
As any chef knows, fresh shellfish such as clams and muscles should be soaked in water with cornmeal to allow the clams to naturally extract any sand that they may had previously injested. You can always expect to get maybe one or two muscles in a bowl full to have a grain of sand in them. However, it seemed as though no effort whatsoever was made to rid the muscles of sand in this case, as the ratio of muscles with sand in them was overwhelming as per the portion served. Luckily, this appetizer was a seasonal special and does not seem to be a regular menu item.
Our entrees consisted of the New York Strip Steak and the Pacific Cliffs Salmon. The steak was cooked perfectly, as ordered. It was accompanied by the usual sides of a salad, vegetable, and potato. The steak entree was enjoyable and well portioned. The Pacific Cliffs Salmon entree was okay. The salmon was cooked nicely and was not dried out at all. The rice pilaf was lacking flavor though and seemed to be there to simply take up real estate on the plate. Three asparagus spears also accompanied the entree. They were hearty and were cooked nicely. The blueberry compote was a nice addition. It is something that you would not expect to be served with such a dish, but it definitely melded in and made a wonderful addition to the entree.
For dessert we tried the Seven Layer Chocolate Cake. It consisted of rich, dark chocolate cake drizzled with chocolate fudge sauce. This dessert was enough for two, and definitely topped off the meal nicely. We also tried the Creme Brulee Cheesecake which was absolutely deliscious as well. It was smooth and creamy. A truly wonderful dessert.
The waitstaff, although very friendly, were a bit unattentive. We felt abandoned at times. Especially when our drink glasses sat empty for nearly 20 minutes before they were refilled. Our meal also had taken a long time to come out, as the waiter informed us that the kitchen staff misplaced our ticket. The manager was very apologetic and came to the table to apologize for the delay. However, no effort was made to make up for it. We had also brought the matter of the sand in the muscles to our server's attention early on in the meal. He had a bit of an accent and said something that was somewhat illegible to us. He then walked away. We thought that maybe he was going to get the manager or bring us another order, but the matter was never addressed. We left it at that and didn't mention it again.
In short, The Stonewood Grille offers a very nice dining atmosphere, along with a wonderful selection of menu items to choose from. Although we would not recommend ordering any clams or muscles unless they have updated their shellfish preparation methods.

None of the appetizers that we tried impressed us enough to consider a favorite. Sorry.
