The Plaka is one of Fort Myers not-so-hidden treasures. Unlike it's sister-restaurant, Nimoki's Plaka in Fort Myers, The Plaka is located in the heart of the busy Times Square section of Fort Myers Beach. Having gotten a major facelift this past year, there is now seating or nearly double it's original capacity.

Like their other restaurant, they continually serve up exceptionally good, authentic Greek dishes. The restaurant's decor treats you to the sights and sounds of different parts of Greece, while enjoying exceptional sunset views from the dining area.

Upon entering, you can pretty much sit wherever you want to. you can choose to sit inside or outside. Both areas offer an ample amount of space and comfort. I would suggest sitting outside so you can enjoy the views that are offered by this small section of Fort Myers Beach.

The only difference we found between The Plaka and their other restaurant, Nomiki's Plaka was that the waitstaff here, while being just as friendly as the other location, are not as attentive. At times we felt abandoned and forgotten. After waiting ten minutes from our arrival and not even having our drink order taken, I eventually got up and searched out a couple of menus. Our glasses sat empty throughout most of the meal and were only offered to be refilled when we flagged down the waiter for our check. The food here is good, but I think that the service could use a little improvement.

As an appetizer we ordered the Saganaki, which is flaming goat cheese. It was very good and the tableside presentation was a fun way to start the meal. This would even be nice alone with a glass of nice Greek wine.

For our entrees we ordered the Souvlakia Platter and the Pastisioi. The Souvlakia platter consisted of wonderfully moist skewered pork and a nice sized portion of the house rice. It was also accompanied by a serving of pita bread and a small Greek salad. The Pastisio was deliscious as well. I often refer to it as Greek Lasagna Both entrees were wonderfully satisfying.

For dessert we ordered the homemade Kadaifi which was the perfect close to a perfect meal. The other desserts also looked just as fresh and tasty. We highly recommend ordering dessert if you aren't too full from the very generously portioned entrees.

All in all, this restaurant by far, serves up the best Greek food on Fort Myers Beach. It's where all of the locals go when they want a wonderfully prepared Greek meal. So if you want to take a break and have a great meal by the beach, we recommend giving The Plaka a try. You'll be glad you did.

The Souvlakia Platter was superbly delicious. The meat was so juicy and tender. This is a favorite of many. Make it yours today.

Favorite Appetizer:
We completely enjoyed the Saganaki appetizer. It was very tasty and was a fun way to start our meal.
