India Palace is touted ad the best Indian restaurnat in Fort Myers. It is our assumption that they have achieved this title due to the fact that they are the only Indian restaurant in Fort Myers.
Walking in, we got the feeling that this was going to be an upscale experience. We saw white table linens, artistically folded linen napkens, and a nice decor. Upon being seated, the first thing we noticed was that the table linen on our table was stained with the food from whoever sat at that table before us. It was large enough for the waiter to even notice it at one point. He seemed bothered by it, but didn't make any effort to clean it up or apologize for it. Also, the bathrooms were not very clean.
The staff, although friendly, was somewhat unattentive during the meal. At one point all of our glasses were empty (2 waters and 2 sodas). They only came to refill our drinks one time throughout the meal, and even though all of our drinks were empty, they only refilled my water and soda and left the other party at my table drinkless. Luckily they refilled both of my glasses, which allowed me to offer my companion either my soda or my water. The food was ok. Not horrible, but not great either. The Tandoori chicken was extremely dry, and the Kashmiri Pillaw rice was lacking any sort of flavor.
As an appetizer we got the India Palace Special Variety Tray which contained several different fried appetizer morsels to taste. This was a decent sized appetizer, and not that it was anything to write home about, it was not all bad. The mango chutney that was served with it was very good and had a wonderful bite to it. The yogurt sauce was nothing special.
We then tried two different soups. The first being the lentil soup, and the second being the vegetable soup. We enjoyed both soups down to the last drop. They were undoubtedly the best part of the meal.
We ordered two main courses. The first one being the Chicken Tikka Masala. It was a decent sized portion, and had a nice flavor and texture. The second entree that we ordered was the Mixed Tandori Platter which was really not that appetizing. It consisted mostly of chicken pieces which were all dried out. I believe we salvaged two shrimp off of the platter and took the rest home in a doggie bag. The onion naan was tasty. Again, I've had better, but it was ok.
For dessert we had the Rasmalai which was extremely sweet. The closest thing I could do to describe it is if you took a glazed munchkin and let it soak up an entire cup of sugar-water. We didn't care for the texture that much, but it wasn't horrible. Just overly sweet.

Favorite Entree:
None of the dishes that we tried impressed us enough to consider a favorite. Sorry.

Favorite Appetizer:
The vegetable soup was probably the best part of our entire meal.
