Upon entering the Shrimp Shack, we noticed that it was quite crowded. This for us is usually a good sign. It usually means that the food will be decent.

We started off with a crab cake appetizer and a calamari appetizer. The crab cakes were overcooked and somewhat dry. The camamari was also not that great, as it was on the rubbery side. Our guess is that it was previously frozen. And if not, then it was poorly cooked.

We ordered a broiled seaffod assortment and a fried seafood assortment. The broiled entree was very bland and underseasoned and the fried entree was overcooked as was the appetizer. They do offer blackened seasoning on the broiled seafood assortment. However, one should not have to assume that declining the blackened seasoning option would result in no seasoning at all. Both entrees were a disappointment.

As I said, the place was very busy and may have led to the kitchen staff rushing some orders out while plating up other orders a second or two past their normal done stages. Another reason could be that they may have had a new cook in the kitchen or something to that effect. Regardless, neither excuse is acceptable.

While we wouldn't consider this to be the worst seafood restaurant in Fort Myers, we definitely cannot crown it as the best. They seem to have a consistent quantity of customers, which is maybe what they strive for. It would be nice however, to see them step up the quality as well.
